Ministries

The Alice Brown Women’s Missionary Society (WMS) is comprised of women disciples seeking to grow through knowledge and action. This ministry engages in ministry via global health initiatives, volunteerism, and the services it provides to humanity. The WMS is a component of the AME Church.

The Church School Ministry meets each Sunday morning for the purpose of spiritual formation and developing Christian disciples at various age levels. Classes begin at 9:00 AM downstairs in the fellowship hall, or you can participate by dialing 774.665.9000 and enter the code 5863629#.

The Christian Debutante Masters Commission (CDMC) prepares youth to transition from childhood to adulthood and grows them in their knowledge of and personal relationship with Christ. The CDMC sponsors a ceremony annually that provides high school seniors with their debuts into church and society as young adults. The CDMC is a component of the AME Church.

The Discipleship Training Ministry meets for bible study each Wednesday at 6:30pm for the purpose of raising up Christian disciples. Classes engage participants in walking through the scriptures not just for information but mostly for transformation through a deeper understanding of the Living Word. The Hospitality Ministry formally welcomes guests during worship on Specific Sundays, prepares homegoing repasts and meals for other special occasions, and provides decorative services for special church programs and events. The Hospitality Ministry also makes sure members receive acknowledgements from Mt. Zion during times of particular hardship, grief, and/or loss.

The Intercessory Prayer Ministry regularly lifts prayers and supplications for all who make requests. The ministry facilitates a daily prayer conference call at 7am. To participate, dial 774.665.9000 and enter the code 5863629#.

The Lay Organization is made up of all non-clergy members of the church. Its goal is to uplift the ministries and encourage members to utilize their God-given gifts and talents in the service of the Lord. The Lay Organization also teaches parishioners about the history and legacy of the AME Church. The Lay Organization is a component of the AME Church.

The Marketing Ministry develops marketing campaigns for special programs and events. The ministry ensures that activities are posted on all church social media sites and works with program chairpersons to get flyers and promotional materials designed, produced, and distributed.

The Ministerial Staff supports the Senior Pastor and the church’s ministries and serves God’s people by providing pastoral care and encouragement.

The Music Ministry ensures the atmosphere is conducive to worship on every Sunday and at other special events. Mt. Zion’s Music Ministry includes both members and non-members who lift their voices in song, praising God. Choir rehearsal takes place every Saturday at 11 AM (or as otherwise noted).

The Nursing Home Ministry takes the love of Christ to persons residing in skilled nursing facilities and rehabilitation centers. The ministry provides a worship experience for the residents that includes singing, scripture, prayer, ministry of presence, and an inspirational message. One does not have to be a clergy person to participate in this ministry.

The Sons of Allen Men’s Ministry builds men spiritually through study of the word, service, and fellowship with others and encourages them to help other men find meaningful relationships with Christ. The Sons of Allen is a component of the AME Church.

The Steward Board serves the needs of the Pastor and looks after the spiritual and financial well-being of the church.

The Stewardess Board assists the Pastor and Stewards, and prepares the chancel area for Holy Communion and Baptism.

The Trustees manage all the physical property of the church by working diligently to ensure that its facilities are well kept, insured, and maintained.

The Usher/Greeters Ministry serves as the official greeters of Mt. Zion and welcomes our guests. They also help to maintain order during worship through courteous and helpful acts of love.

The Witness to Fitness Ministry provides an Aerobics class with a Certified Aerobics Fitness Instructor (AFAA) every Tuesday on Facebook @ Mt. Zion A.M.E. Decatur at 5 PM. The ministry also sponsors healthy lifestyle management seminars on a variety of subjects that can help people improve their overall health.

Youth involved in the Young People’s Department (YPD) let their lights shine in a variety of youth activities and spiritual development opportunities at the local church, conference, and district levels. Activities include taking a leading role in worship every third Sunday of the month, youth choir, lock-ins, AME state-wide celebrations, and various volunteer opportunities. The YPD is a component of the AME Church.
