Mt. Zion is affiliated with the AME Church. People often wonder what AME means. AME means African Methodist Episcopal.
African points to the fact that the denomination was founded by people of African descent in an effort to rid themselves of the religious oppression they experienced. This does not mean that only people of African descent are welcomed–quite the contrary. All people are welcomed at Mt. Zion. We passionately want our church to reflect the community and the world.
Methodist points to our doctrinal beliefs which are in line with the World Council of Methodist Churches (for more about our beliefs, click on Our Beliefs.)
Episcopal points to the way the church is structured and governed. We are governed by Bishops who are elected by the church and appointed to serve each episcopal district. We are not affiliated with the Episcopal Church, which is a different denomination.
